Inbox by Gmail: Remove from Spam

Are you currently using Inbox by Gmail? Are you having trouble removing items from the Spam folder that incorrectly were classified as Spam?  Here are the steps for removing from Spam in Inbox by Gmail

  1. Go to inbox.google.com
  2. Click on the menu drop down icon
  3. Select the Spam bundle
  4. Open the email that you feel is classified incorrectly
  5. Pin the email back to your Inbox by clicking on the Pin
  6. If you have a lot of emails in your inbox, you can quickly find all those pinned to the inbox by using the pin slider icon at the top of the screen

Now once you have marked the email as not Spam, unfortunately the links that were deactivated by Google as a safety measure are still not active. In order to activate the links, you simply need to refresh the tab. See the video here for complete steps:

  1. I read all your replies to others within the Google Forums, but I wonder if your solution actually works. The real question remains, why would Google make a user do two things to make one single action? It seems much more intuitive to have a UI in the Spam folder that allows a user to mark an email as "not spam" from the Google Inbox interface (either web or mobile app). Have you submitted a support ticket to them about this my friend? Keep me updates as I'm curious about the progress. Thanks.

  2. Please remember, Inbox by Gmail is still considered in Beta release. You shoul duse the feedback option in the app to request this type of feature.

    1. Nearly two years later this still doesn't seem to be fixed.

    2. Agreed. Even pinning doesn't clear the email for viewing in the inbox. links and images are still disabled.

    3. Refresh the tab and it will activate the images and links

    4. So, the big G must have changed something. Now refreshing the tab does not re-activate links and images. Any other ideas?

    5. This took me two minutes to solve. Although you may have all figured it out since this is an older thread, I thought I'd reply, just in case, because this was such an annoying issue!

I can only do this from the MOBILE Inbox app:
      Open the Spam folder.
Select and hold down on the email(s) you want to remove from Spam.
There will now be checkmarks next to the email(s) you selected.
Select the menu (three small dots) in the upper right hand corner.
      Select "Remove from Spam"

      That's it.

    6. Thanks Jessica,

The solution as described used to work so I just kept wondering what I was doing wrong now. So much easier now.

  3. Absolutely brother; I was mainly just engaging with you because you seemed to have initiated a real "discussion" about this feature, instead of others simply complaining about it. So that's why I was wondering about your "support ticket" or feedback. Thanks again.

  4. Pleasure. Yes I am part of the Gmail Product Forum contributor program so I try my best to help as much as possible, instead of just hearing people complain. Glad you provided the feedback and appreciate your thoughts.

  5. You should go to clasisc gmail and create a filter for that credit card bill that sets it to never mark as spam.

  6. It seems a bit strange that you need to use gmail to do anything since Google have now offered redirection from gmail to inbox. This kind of implies that inbox should be the main email client going forward, but it seems like it's lacking some very basic features still.
Any word on when this functionality will be added to inbox?

  7. At no point was it every said are implied that inbox should be the main front end. They are just giving people an alternative and the redirect helps make that alternative a bit smoother.

The Mark as not spam feature is in Inbox, that is what this blog post is about

  8. I used this method but the links within emails moved to inbox remain inactive. Is there a way to activate links without reverting to gmail?

    1. If the links are disabled its because it is considered more phishing than spam. To reactivate the links you have to go back Gmail

  9. Thank you! Have a great day...

  10. Im still testing the theory, but I am adding the email address to my contacts. I am hoping that the future emails will arrive in the inbox, instead of the spam.

  11. If I unpin it it after I pin it (becasue I don't want it pinned, I just want it un-spammed) does it go back into spam?

    1. it stays in your inbox, but, if it's still seen as a promotion, it will be put in promotions after unpinning it, looking like it disappears from your inbox ;) so if it's also not promotion, you have to move it out of promotion too ;)

  12. My apology in advance for being negative, but this issue is stupid. If you have to search help forums to figure out a workaround, it's obviously broken. I'm leaving Google Inbox and going back to Gmail. At least it works.

  13. Thank you for this. What an incredibly unintuitive process.

  14. I'm still confused. My receipts from certain companies regularly go to spam. In Inbox, I found them in spam, pinned them, went back to inbox, then refreshed. I then marked them as done so they would go to archive instead of permanently delete.

I assumed this would train the Inbox algorithm to not mark these senders as spam, but it doesn't. They still go to spam, as do other emails I actually want. I essentially have two inboxes now, just one is called "spam". Do I actually have to create a rule for each sender? Thought there used to be an option to simply "never mark sender as spam" or something, but I can't find it.

  15. this is dumb. the email is still marked as spam

  16. I had to click on the Gmail link, find the emails in Gmail, Use the three dot menu on the individual emails and unmark them as phishing.

  17. How is such a basic feature not fixed yet? I just struggled for 1 hour trying to figure this out. The only way to fix this is to go through the Inbox app. Scott Greene, without this one little forum, we'd all be lost. You probably have views in the millions on this post. LOL You are support for the entire world because Inbox UX/UI designers missed the obvious.

  18. thank you for this! it was driving me bananas...

  19. This method does not work. It takes it out of spam, but it keeps links not working. I want those links, it's why I receive several of those messages.

  20. Thanks, it worked perfectly for me! It's ridiculous the UI hasn't been fixed for this workflow for years. I submitted feedback to Google to ask for the "Remove from Spam" button like Gmail.

  21. Thanks a lot for the workaround! Sadly I haven't yet figured out an equivalent workaround for the Inbox Android app...

    1. There really is no equivalent on mobile, other than using the mobile browser

  22. Hope you all have figured this out by now, as I see it's a rather old thread, but I just googled this issue, but then figured it out on my own a couple minutes later. This is what I did:

This only works in the MOBILE APP for Inbox.
Tap the Menu in the upper right corner.
    Select Spam.
Tap and hold to select all of the emails you want to remove.
A check mark will appear by each email.
Select the three small dots menu in the upper right hand corner.
    Select "Remove from Spam"

    That's it!

  23. If you know a little basic html here is a way to find the links.
    1. click the three dots on top right of the mail
    2. click "show original"

this will show the original email with the links as html code. From this you can find the links. In my case there were some extra characters like '=' included in the link which I had to remove manually

  24. so stupid - just add the not Spam button or at least give the ability to move the item to the Inbox folder - you've intentionally removed the ability to move to INbox also!!!!

As if Google can do no wrong!!!
