Project Fi: Trade In Program

Today, Project fi has continued with the huge announcements. Another feature that users have been requesting for a long time now is the ability to trade in an old device.
Well, that feature is now finally coming to Project Fi. They have partnered with a third party company (Hyla) and will accept any trade ins that have value. Doesn't matter if it is a Fi compatible device, nor if it was purchased through Project Fi.

As with any trade in program, you will not be able to trade in a device if there is any financing balance remaining. I am not clear on the flow of the trade in at this time as its not live for me, but once it is I will add a video below to show how it will work.

Important things to note, is that users can apply the trade in value as either a credit to their Fi bill or get a credit card refund applied when purchasing a new phone through Fi at full price.

Those who are not currently Fi customers will also be able to participate in the trade in program, however only when they are signing up to become Fi customers.

Once a trade in is requested, users will get a kit that includes instructions and an envelope to ship the device. Once you ship the device back there will be an area on the Fi website for you to track the status of your trade in. The statuses will include

  • Confirmed -  when you first request the trade in
  • Trade-in Kit Shipped - after Hyla sends out the kit
  • Trade-in Device Received - Hyla has received the device
  • Device Assessed - Hyla has reviewed the device and will send an email with details
  • Customer Paid - user has been paid for their trade in as either credit to account or credit to credit card
  • Device Returned - returned to user and they can contact support for more information
If you choose to have credit issued to your Fi account, that will show in your monthly bill. If you are a group member, your credit will remain with you should you leave the group.

I know this is another awesome feature that many will come to love.
